Surah Al-Baqarah (Ayat 143 -152): Tahweel-e-Qibla aur Ibadat ka Naya Markaz ✨ The Change of Qibla and Spiritual Direction |Complete Arabic Text with Urdu and English Translation | |Sirat-ul-Iman Official

 { بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ }

Introduction

These verses mark the beginning of the second Juz (Para) of the Holy Quran. A pivotal moment in Islamic history is discussed here: the changing of the Qibla from Jerusalem to the Holy Kaaba in Makkah. This was not merely a change in physical direction but a profound test of faith and a declaration of the Muslim Ummah's unique identity.
In this post, we explore how Allah fulfilled the heart's desire of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and designated Muslims as the "Middle Nation" (Ummat-e-Wast). Furthermore, we will delve into the divine commands regarding patience, prayer, and the immense rewards of remembering Allah (Dhikr).

Ayat 143

Aur baat yun hi hai ke Hum ne tumhein kiya sab ummaton mein afzal ke tum logon par gawah ho aur ye Rasool tumhare nigehban-o-gawah aur ae mehboob tum pehle jis qibla par thay Hum ne wo isi liye muqarrar kiya tha ke dekhein kaun Rasool ki pairwi karta hai aur kaun ulte paon phir jata hai aur beshak ye bhaari thi magar un par jinhein Allah ne hidayat ki aur Allah ki shan nahi ke tumhara imaan akaarat kare, beshak Allah aadmiyon par bohat meherban, meher wala hai.

And likewise, We have made you a just community (the best among all) that you may be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger may be a witness and a guardian over you. And We did not appoint the Qibla which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from him who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it was a difficult test except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused your faith to be lost. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.

Ayat 144

Hum dekh rahe hain baar baar tumhara aasman ki taraf munh karna to zaroor Hum tumhein pher dein ge us qibla ki taraf jis mein tumhari khushi hai abhi apna munh pher do Masjid-e-Haram ki taraf aur ae musalmano tum jahan kahin ho apna munh usi ki taraf karo aur wo jinhein kitab mili hai zaroor jaante hain ke ye un ke Rabb ki taraf se haq hai aur Allah un ke kootkon se be-khabar nahi.

We see the turning of your face towards the heaven, so We will surely turn you to a Qibla with which you shall be pleased. So turn your face toward Al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it [in prayer]. And indeed, those who have been given the Scripture well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what they do.

Ayat 145

Aur agar tum in kitabiyon ke paas har nishani le kar ao wo tumhare qibla ki pairwi na karein ge aur na tum un ke qibla ki pairwi karo aur wo aapas mein bhi ek dusre ke qibla ke tabay nahi aur (ae sunne wale kise bashad) agar tu un ki khwahishon par chala baad is ke ke tujhe ilm mil chuka to us waqt tu zaroor sitam-gaar hoga.

And even if you were to bring to those who were given the Scripture every sign, they would not follow your Qibla. Nor will you be a follower of their Qibla. Nor would they be followers of one another's Qibla. And if you should follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, indeed, you would then be among the wrongdoers.

Arabic calligraphy of Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 146 to 152 emphasizing the Prophet's recognition and the importance of patience and prayer.

Ayat 146

Jinhein Hum ne kitab ata farmai wo is Nabi ko aisa pehchante hain jaise aadmi apne beton ko pehchanta hai aur beshak un mein ek giroh jaan boojh kar haq chhupate hain.

Those to whom We gave the Scripture know him as they know their own sons. But indeed, a party of them conceals the truth while they know [it].

Ayat 147

The truth is from your Lord, so never be among the doubters.

Ayat 148

Aur har ek ke liye tawajjo ki ek simt hai ke wo isi taraf munh karta hai to ye chaho ke neikiyon mein auron se aage nikal jayein tum kahin ho Allah tum sab ko ikatha le aaye ga beshak Allah jo chahe kare.

For every nation there is a direction to which they face (in prayer). So hasten towards all that is good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you all together. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.

Ayat 149

And from wherever you go out [for prayer], turn your face toward Al-Masjid al-Haram. And indeed, it is the truth from your Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

Ayat 150

Jaise Hum ne tum mein bheja ek Rasool tum mein se ke tum par Hamari aayatein tilawat farmata hai aur tumhein paak karta aur kitab aur pukhta ilm sikhata hai aur tumhein wo taleem farmata hai jis ka tumhein ilm na tha.

Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom and teaching you that which you did not know.

Ayat 151

Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom and teaching you that which you did not know.

Ayat 152

To meri yaad karo Main tumhara charcha karoon ga aur Mera haqq maano aur Meri na-shukri na karo.

So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.

Tafseer Surah Al-Baqarah (Ayat 143-152)

1. Ummat-e-Wast (Behtareen Ummat)

Allah Ta'ala ne Musalmano ko "Ummat-e-Wast" banaya hai, yani wo jo har kaam mein itidal (balance) rakhte hain. Inka maqsad poori duniya ke liye haq ki gawahi dena hai. Zara sochein, kya hum ye kehlwane ke haqdar hain?
Aage aayat mein Allah ne farmaya ke jab tamam awwaleen o aakhireen jama honge aur kuffaar se farmaya jayega ke "Kya tumhare paas Meri taraf se daranay aur ahkaam pahonchanay walay nahi aaye?" Toh woh inkaar karenge aur kahenge ke koi nahi aaya. Hazraat-e-Anbiya (Alayhimus-salatu was-salaam) se daryaft farmaya jayega toh woh arz karenge ke "Yeh jhootay hain, hum ne inhein tableegh ki hai." Is baat par Anbiya-e-Kiraam se kuffaar par hujjat qaim karne ke liye daleel talab ki jayegi, woh arz karenge ke "Ummat-e-Muhammadiya hamari gawah hai." Chunancha yeh ummat paighambaron ke haq mein gawahi degi ke in hazraat ne tableegh farmai. Is par guzrishta ummaton ke kuffaar kahenge: "Ummat-e-Muhammadiya ko kya maloom? Yeh toh hum se baad mein aaye thay." Chunancha Ummat-e-Muhammadiya se poocha jayega: “Tum kaise jaantay ho?” Woh arz karenge: "Ya Rabb! Ab dekhein Allah ka kitna karam hai hum par ke Allah Momineen se gawahi lega, lekin is mein ye bhi farmaya gaya hai ke gawahi un logon ki li jayegi jo neik aur saliheen honge, jo befazool aur galat alfaz bolte hain unki gawahi nahi li jayegi.

2. Tahweel-e-Qibla (Qibla ki Tabdeeli)

Nabi Kareem ﷺ ki dili khwahish thi ke Qibla Kaaba ki taraf ho jaye. Allah ne unki dua qabool farmayi aur namaz ke dauran hi rukh Masjid-e-Haram ki taraf karne ka hukum diya. Ye tabdeeli dar-asl momineen aur munafiqeen ke darmiyan imtehan thi. Beshak is aayat se ye sabit hota hai ke Allah ko Apne Mehboob ﷺ se kitni mohabbat thi ke unki khwahish par Allah ne Qibla tabdeel farma diya. Allah ne farmaya ke Maine Qibla is liye badla kyunke is mein Mere Mehboob ki khushi aur raza thi. Allah Pak farmata hai ke sari duniya Meri raza chahti hai aur Main dono jahanon mein sirf Apne Mehboob ﷺ ki raza chahta hoon. SubhanAllah! Ye aayat parh kar pata chalta hai ke Allah ko Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ se kitni mohabbat hai.

3. Ahle-Kitab ki Pehchan

Pichli kitabon (Torat o Injeel) ke manne wale log Nabi ﷺ ko bilkul sahi pehchante thay, jaise koi apne beton ko pehchanta hai. Lekin hasad aur zid ki wajah se unka ek giroh haq ko chupa raha tha. In aayat mein Allah ne Huzoor Pak ﷺ se farmaya ke Aap Ahle-Kitab ko jitni marzi daleel dein, wo Aapke Qibla ki pairwi nahi karenge kyunke unke dil mein hasad hai. Is se sabit hota hai ke hasad kitni buri cheez hai. Jis ke dil mein Huzoor ﷺ ke liye keena hai wo kabhi hidayat nahi paa sakta. Meri nazar mein beshak insan gunahgaar ho lekin agar Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ se mohabbat karne wala ho to wo duniya o aakhirat mein kamyab hai. Allah ne farmaya ke Maine Apne Mehboob ki mohabbat mein ye kainat banayi hai. In aayat mein ye bhi bataya gaya ke Alim ka gunah jahil se zyada bada hai, kyunke unke paas ilm tha lekin phir bhi nahi mana.

4. Neikiyon mein Musabiqat (Competition)

Allah farmata hai ke har qaum ka ek Qibla hota hai, lekin asli baat ye hai ke tum neikiyon mein ek doosre se aage nikalne ki koshish karo. Tum jahan bhi hoge, qayamat ke din Allah tum sab ko ikatha kar lega. In aayat mein farmaya gaya hai ke namaz hamesha Kaaba ki taraf parho chahe aap jahan bhi hon. Allah behtareen faisla karne wala hai. Qibla ki tabdeeli bhi ek behtareen faisla tha aur humein Allah ke faisle par razi rehna chahiye. Allah jo karta hai behtari ke liye karta hai. Humein har kaam mein jaldi hoti hai lekin Allah ke har kaam mein maslihat hoti hai. Kabhi zahiri taur par kuch bura lag raha hota hai lekin dar-haqiqat Allah ne hamare liye behtareen soch rakha hota hai, aur ye maine apni life mein experience bhi kiya hai.

5. Zikr aur Shukar ki Ahmiyat

In ayataat ka ikhtetaam is azeem hukum par hota hai: "Tum Mujhe yaad karo, Main tumhein yaad karoon ga". Allah ka shukar ada karne aur na-shukri se bachne ki hidayat di gayi hai. Jab banda zameen par Allah ka zikr karta hai to Allah farishton ke samne uska zikr karta hai. Allah un logon se bohat mohabbat farmata hai jo Uska aur Uske Nabi ﷺ ka zikr karte hain. Shukar itni bari nemat hai ke agar koi kamyab hona chahta hai to wo shukar ada karna seekh jaye. Allah ko shukar karne wale bohat pasand hain. Namaz mein do sajde hote hain, pehla sajda hukum ka aur doosra shukar ka—is se aap ehmiyat ka andaza lagayein. Musibaton mein bhi shukar karo taake Allah khush ho kar nikal de. Agar hum hazaron saal bhi sajda-e-shukar karein to Allah ki nematon ka haq ada nahi ho sakta.

1. Ummatan Wasatan (The Best and Balanced Nation)

Allah Almighty has made the Muslims “Ummatan Wasatan”—a balanced and just nation that maintains moderation in all matters. The purpose of this Ummah is to bear witness to the truth before the entire world. In these verses, it is stated that just as our final Prophet ﷺ is superior to all other prophets, likewise his Ummah has been made superior to all other nations.
Allah says: “O Muslims! Just as We granted you guidance, made the Ka‘bah your Qiblah, and declared you the best Ummah.” Although the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ is the last Ummah, Allah has still granted it the highest status. Reflect on Allah’s immense favor upon us that He called us the “best Ummah.” But today, if we honestly assess our condition, do we truly deserve this title? This is a question worth deep reflection.
In the following verse, Allah describes the Day of Judgment when all former and later people will be gathered, and the disbelievers will be asked: “Did no warner or messenger come to you from Me?” They will deny it and say that no one came. Then the Prophets (peace be upon them) will be asked, and they will say: “They are lying; we did convey the message to them.”
At that point, Allah will ask for evidence to establish proof against the disbelievers. The Prophets will say: “The Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ is our witness.” Thus, this Ummah will testify that the Prophets conveyed Allah’s message fully. The disbelievers of previous nations will then object: “How can the Ummah of Muhammad know? They came after us.” The Ummah will respond: “O our Lord! You sent to us Your Messenger Muhammad Mustafa ﷺ, revealed the Noble Qur’an, and through him You gave us certain and definite knowledge that the Prophets fulfilled their duty of conveying the message completely.”
Then the Seal of the Prophets ﷺ will be asked about his Ummah, and he will confirm their testimony. See how great Allah’s favor is upon us that He will take testimony from the believers. However, it is also made clear that only the testimony of righteous and pious people will be accepted; those who speak falsely or use improper words will not be taken as witnesses. And the testimony of our beloved Prophet ﷺ is the most final and decisive of all.

2. Tahweel-e-Qiblah (Change of the Qiblah)

It was the heartfelt desire of the Prophet ﷺ that the Qiblah be changed toward the Ka‘bah. Allah accepted his wish and commanded, during the prayer itself, to turn toward Masjid al-Haram. This change was, in reality, a test to distinguish the true believers from the hypocrites.
This verse clearly shows how much Allah loves His Beloved ﷺ, that He changed the Qiblah in response to his desire. Allah says that He changed the Qiblah because in it was the pleasure and happiness of His Beloved. Allah declares that while the entire world seeks His pleasure, He seeks only the pleasure of His Beloved ﷺ in both worlds. SubhanAllah! These verses reveal the immense love Allah has for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

3. Recognition by the People of the Book

The followers of previous scriptures (the Torah and the Gospel) recognized the Prophet ﷺ just as clearly as they recognize their own sons. Yet, due to envy and stubbornness, a group among them concealed the truth. In these verses, Allah tells the Prophet ﷺ that no matter how many proofs he presents to the People of the Book, they will not follow his Qiblah because their hearts are filled with jealousy.
This proves how destructive envy is. A person whose heart contains hatred for the Prophet ﷺ can never attain true guidance. In my view, even if a person is sinful, but loves Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he will succeed in this world and the Hereafter. Allah states that He created this universe out of love for His Beloved. These verses also show that the sin of a learned person is greater than that of an ignorant one, because they possess knowledge yet still reject the truth.
When the Jewish scholar Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam (RA) accepted Islam, Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) asked him about the meaning of “recognition” mentioned in this verse. He replied: “O Umar! When I saw the Prophet ﷺ, I recognized him without any doubt—more clearly than I recognize my own sons.” Hazrat Umar asked: “How is that?” He replied: “The attributes of the Messenger ﷺ were clearly described by Allah in our Book, the Torah, whereas certainty about one’s son depends only on a woman’s statement.” (Meaning: the recognition of the Prophet ﷺ was divinely confirmed and absolute.) Upon hearing this, Hazrat Umar (RA) kissed his head. Thus, it is evident that the People of the Book rejected him purely out of envy.

4. Competing in Good Deeds

Allah states that every nation has its own direction (Qiblah), but the real objective is that you should compete with one another in good deeds. Wherever you may be, Allah will gather you all on the Day of Judgment. These verses command that prayer must always be offered facing the Ka‘bah, wherever you are. Allah is the best of judges.
The change of the Qiblah was also a wise and perfect decision, and we must remain content with Allah’s decisions. Whatever Allah does is for the best. Humans are often hasty, but every action of Allah contains deep wisdom. Sometimes something appears outwardly unpleasant, but in reality, Allah has planned something far better for us—and I have personally experienced this in my own life.

5. The Importance of Remembrance and Gratitude

These verses conclude with this magnificent command: “Remember Me, and I will remember you.” Allah instructs us to be grateful and to avoid ingratitude. When a servant remembers Allah on earth, Allah mentions that servant among the angels. Allah loves those who remember Him and His Prophet ﷺ abundantly.
Gratitude is such a great blessing that anyone who wishes to succeed must learn how to be thankful. Allah greatly loves those who express gratitude. In prayer, there are two prostrations: the first is in obedience, and the second is in gratitude—this alone shows the importance of thankfulness. Be grateful even during hardships so that Allah, being pleased, may remove them. Even if we were to perform prostrations of gratitude for thousands of years, we would still be unable to fully repay Allah for His countless blessings.

Namaz hamesha Kaaba ki taraf rukh kar ke parhein chahe aap jahan bhi hon. Ye tabdeeli dar-asl momineen ka imtehan tha ke kaun baghair sawal kiye Nabi ﷺ ki pairwi karta hai. Aur Namaz Huzoor ﷺ ki aankhon ki thandak hai is liye is ko kabhi na choro. Allah farmata hai ke zameen ke jis hisse mein namaz parhi jati hai, zameen ka baki sara hissa us par rashk karta hai aur ye zameen ka hissa roz-e-mehshar gawahi dega, is liye namaz jagah badal badal kar parhni chahiye.

Neikiyon mein Muqabla:

Bajaye behson mein parhne ke, Allah ne hukum diya hai ke ek doosre se neikiyon mein aage nikalne ki koshish karo.

Allah ki Maslihat:

Allah ka har faisla hikmat par mabni hota hai, chahe wo zahiri taur par humein samajh aaye ya na aaye.

Zikr-e-Ilahi:

Allah ka wada hai ke "Tum Mujhe yaad karo, Main tumhein yaad karoon ga," jo ke ek momin ke liye sab se bari baat hai.

Shukar ki Quwwat:

Kamyabi ka raaz shukar mein hai; musibat mein bhi shukar karne se Allah raaste asaan kar deta hai. Hamesha shukar ada karte raho aur sab se zyada shukar is baat par karna chahiye ke Allah ne humein Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ diye hain. Nabi ke taur par ye hum Musalmanon par Allah ki sab se bari rehmat aur nemat hai, jis ka shukar agar lakho saal sajda karein to bhi haq ada nahi ho sakta.

Key Points (English)

The Balanced Nation:

Muslims are designated as a "Middle Nation" to serve as witnesses of truth for all of humanity on the Day of Judgment.

Testimony for Prophets:

On Judgment Day, this Ummah will testify to the messengers' delivery of the divine message based on the knowledge given in the Quran.

Change of Qibla:

Allah changed the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to the Kaaba solely for the pleasure and heart's desire of the Prophet ﷺ.

Prayer and Obedience:

Always face the Kaaba during prayer, regardless of your location. This shift was a test of faith to see who follows the Messenger ﷺ without hesitation. Prayer is the "coolness of the eyes" of the Prophet ﷺ, so never abandon it. It is said that other parts of the earth envy the spot where prayer is offered, and that ground will testify for you on Judgment Day; thus, one should offer prayers at different spots.
Jealousy of the People of the Book: Scholars among Jews and Christians recognized the Prophet ﷺ as clearly as their own sons but concealed the truth out of envy.
Responsibility of Knowledge: Sins committed by those with knowledge are more severe, as turning away from the truth despite knowing it is a grave matter.
Competition in Goodness: Instead of engaging in useless arguments, Allah commands believers to race toward all that is good and righteous.

Divine Wisdom:

Every decree from Allah is filled with wisdom, whether it is immediately apparent to us or not.

Divine Remembrance:

Allah promises, "Remember Me; I will remember you," which is the greatest spiritual elevation for a believer.

The Power of Gratitude:

Success is rooted in gratitude; thanking Allah even in trials leads to ease and more blessings. We must always be grateful, especially for the blessing of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He is Allah’s greatest mercy upon Muslims, a gift so immense that even millions of years in prostration cannot fully repay the debt of gratitude.

Dill ki Baat

Musalman hona sirf ek naam nahi, balki ye Allah ka wo ehsan hai jis ka shukar hum kabhi ada nahi kar sakte. Ye wo nemat hai ke agar hum sari zindagi sajde mein pare rahein, tab bhi iska haq ada nahi ho sakta.
Mere dil mein ek baat aati hai ke aksar jab duniya mein do log mohabbat karte hain (maslan mian-biwi), aur wo ek doosre ko apna mehboob samajhte hon, to kya wo apne mehboob par kisi bahar wale ki nazar bhi bardasht karenge? Share karna to door ki baat hai. To phir dekhein Allah ne hum par kitna bada ehsan kiya ke Usne apna Mehboob ﷺ humein ata kar diya! Lekin kya hum is ehsan ki qadar kar rahe hain? Kya hum namaz parh rahe hain, roza rakh rahe hain, aur Nabi ﷺ ki sunnat par amal kar rahe hain? Meri khas taur par naujawano se guzarish hai ke Allah aur Uske Nabi ﷺ ko razi karne ki koshish mein lag jayein, kyunke ye duniya fani hai.
Namaz sirf ek farz nahi, balki ye hamare Pyare Nabi ﷺ ki "Aankhon ki Thandak" hai. Jab hum namaz parhte hain, to na sirf hamara dil sukoon pata hai balki wo zameen ka tukra bhi qayamat ke din hamare haq mein gawahi dega. Allah ne humein behtareen banaya, magar aaj humein sochne ki zaroorat hai ke kya hum waqayi us raste par hain? Shukar mein hi asli kamyabi hai. Jab hum musibat mein bhi "Alhamdulillah" kehte hain, to Allah hamare liye raste asaan kar deta hai. Yaad rakhein, Allah ka wada sacha hai: "Tum Mujhe yaad karo, Main tumhein yaad karoon ga."

A Message From My Heart

Being a Muslim is not just a label; it is a divine blessing from Allah for which we can never be grateful enough. Our greatest honor is being part of the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This is a gift so magnificent that even a lifetime of prostration (Sajdah) would fall short of expressing true gratitude.
A thought often comes to my heart: In this world, when two people love each other—take a husband and wife, for example—who truly cherish one another, would they ever tolerate even the gaze of an outsider upon their beloved? Sharing them would be unthinkable. Now, look at Allah's immense favor upon us: He gave His most Beloved ﷺ to us! But are we truly valuing this blessing? Are we offering our prayers, fasting, and following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ? I especially urge the youth to strive to please Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, for this world is temporary.
Prayer (Salah) is not merely an obligation; it is the "Coolness of the Eyes" of our Beloved Prophet ﷺ. When we pray, not only does our soul find peace, but the very ground we stand upon will testify in our favor on the Day of Judgment. Allah has designated us as the best nation, but we must reflect: are we truly walking that path? The secret to success lies in gratitude. When we say "Alhamdulillah" even in trials, Allah paves the way for ease. Never forget Allah’s eternal promise: "Remember Me; I will remember you."

Ramadan Special

Iftar ki Dua (Roza Kholne ki Dua)

Ae Allah! Maine Tere hi liye roza rakha aur Tujh par hi iman laya aur Tujh hi par bharosa kiya aur Tere hi diye huay rizq se iftar kiya."

O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance.

Dua

Ya Allah! Is Rehmat ke Ashray mein hum tamam Ummat-e-Muhammadi ﷺ par rehmat farma, hum Teri rehmat ke mohtaj hain. Aur humein Tera zikar karne wali zaban aur shukar karne wala dil ata farma. Ameen."

"O Allah! In this Ashra of Mercy, bestow Your mercy upon the entire Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ; we are in desperate need of Your mercy. Grant us a tongue that remembers You and a heart that is grateful to You. Grant us all the blessed opportunity to perform Hajj and Umrah, and the privilege of seeing Madina during Ramadan. Ameen."

Closing Message

Doston, aaj ki is guftagu ka maqsad sirf ilm baantna nahi, balki apne dilon ko tatolna hai. Allah ne humein behtareen ummat banaya aur apna Mehboob ﷺ ata kiya—ye wo ehsan hai jis ka shukar hum sari zindagi sajde mein reh kar bhi ada nahi kar sakte.
Aaiye aaj is mubarak mahine mein ahad karein ke hum sirf naam ke Musalman nahi banenge, balki Namaz ki pabandi aur Sunnat-e-Rasool ﷺ par amal kar ke dikhayenge. Allah hum sab ko zikr karne wali zaban aur shukar karne wala dil ata farmaye.
Allah hum sab ki ibadat aur duayon ko qabool farmaye. Ameen!
