Introduction
English
Ayat 213
Log ek hi deen par thay, phir Allah ne Ambiya bheje jo khushkhabri sunate aur darate thay. Unke sath Allah ne bar-haq kitab nazil farmayi taake wo logon ke darmiyan unke ikhtelafat ka faisla kar sake. Is mein ikhtelaf unhi logon ne kiya jinhein kitab di gayi thi, bawajood iske ke unke paas wazeh nishaniyan aa chuki thi, aur ye sab unho ne aapsi zidd aur sarakshi ki wajah se kiya. Phir Allah ne apne hukm se imaan walon ko us haq baat ki hidayat di jis mein wo ikhtelaf kar rahe thay, aur Allah jisay chahta hai seedhi raah dikha deta hai.
Mankind was once a single community, then Allah sent Prophets as bearers of good news and as warners. He sent down with them the Book in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. And only those to whom it was given differed in it—after clear proofs had come to them—out of mutual jealousy and rivalry. Then Allah, by His grace, guided the believers to the truth concerning which they had differed. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.
Ayat 214
tum ne ye guman kar rakha hai ke tum Jannat mein dakhil ho jaoge, halanke abhi tum par un logon jaise halaat nahi aaye jo tum se pehle guzar chuke hain? Unhein sakht mushkilat aur takleefon ne gher liya tha aur wo (iman mein) is qadar jhinjhor diye gaye ke waqt ka Rasool aur unke sath imaan wale bol uthay, "Allah ki madad kab aayegi?" Yaad rakho, beshak Allah ki madad qareeb hai.
Do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed away before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] Messenger and those who believed with him said, "When is the help of Allah?" Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near.
Ayat 215
Tum se poochte hain ke kya kharch karein? Tum farmao ke jo kuch bhi maal tum bhalayi mein kharch karo, wo maa-baap, qareeb ke rishtedaroon, yateemoon, muhtajoon aur musafiroon ke liye hai. Aur jo kuch bhi tum neki karte ho, beshak Allah us se khoob waqif hai.
They ask you what they should spend. Say, "Whatever you spend of good is for parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, and the traveler. And whatever you do of good—indeed, Allah is Knowing of it."
Ayat 216
Tum par farz hua Khuda ki raah mein larna aur wo tumhe nagawar hai, aur kareeb hai ke koi baat tumhe buri lage aur wo tumhare haq mein behtar ho, aur kareeb hai ke koi baat tumhe pasand aaye aur wo tumhare haq mein buri ho; aur Allah jaanta hai aur tum nahi jaante.
Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.
Tafseer-o-Tashreeh: Surah Al-Baqarah (Ayat 213-216)
In ayaton mein Allah Ta’ala ne insani zindagi ke char ahem rukh bayan farmaye hain: Hidayat, Azmaish, Sadaqah aur Allah ki Hikmat.
1. Hidayat aur Ikhtelaf (Ayat 213)
Hazrat Adam (A.S) ke zamane se Hazrat Nuh (A.S) tak sab log ek hi deen aur shariat par thay. Phir logon mein ikhtelaf hua toh Allah ne Hazrat Nuh (A.S) ko mabeous farmaya (ye pehle rasool hain). Logon ki hidayat ke liye Ambiya ka silsila shuru hua aur unhein kitabein aur sahifay diye gaye, jaise Torait, Zabur, Injeel aur aakhir mein Quran.Sabaq:
Magar Allah ne imaan walon ko Huzoor ﷺ ke zariye woh haq baat samjha di jis mein pichli qaumein ulajh rahi thin. Yaad rakhein, jo log zidd chhor kar Allah ki taraf ruju karte hain, Allah unhein seedha rasta dikha deta hai.
Sabaq:
Jab azmaish is had tak pahunchi ke Rasool aur imaan wale pukar uthay ke "Allah ki madad kab aayegi?", tab unhein tasalli di gayi ke Allah ki madad qareeb hai. Ye ayat naye musalmano aur neki ki raah par chalne walon ke liye basharat hai ke sabr-o-istaqamat se hi kamyabi milti hai.
3. Kharch Karne ka Sahi Tariqa (Ayat 215)
Hazrat Amr bin Jamuh (R.A), jo ek maldar sahabi thay, unho ne sawal kiya ke "Kya kharch karein aur kis par karein?" Allah ne farmaya ke har woh maal jo tum neki mein kharch karo, uske sab se pehle haqdar tumhare Maa-Baap hain. Iske baad rishtedar, yateem, miskeen aur musafir aate hain.Sabaq:
Neki sirf ibadat nahi, apno ka khayal rakhna bhi hai. Do baatein hamesha yaad rakhein: Pehli ye ke is ayat mein "Sadqah-e-Nafla" ka bayan hai, aur doosri ye ke Maa-Baap ko Zakat ya Sadqa-e-Wajib dena jaiz nahi hai (unka haq is se bhi barh kar hai).
Magar Allah farmata hai ke ho sakta hai tum kisi cheez ko bura samjho magar wo tumhare liye behtar ho, aur ho sakta hai tum kisi cheez ko pasand karo magar wo tumhare liye buri ho. Jaise karwi dawa ya operation bura lagta hai magar faida deta hai, aur sugar ke mareez ko meetha pasand hota hai magar wo uske liye nuqsan-deh hai.Sabaq:
Hamara ilm mehdood hai, magar Allah ka ilm kamil hai. Acha ya bura hone ka faisla apni soch par nahi, balki Allah ke hukm par rakhein. Zindagi mein jab hamari marzi ke mutabiq kaam na ho, toh Allah ki marzi par razi rehna hi asal sukoon hai.
Exegesis & Commentary: Surah Al-Baqarah (Verses 213-216)
In these verses, Allah (SWT) explains four essential aspects of human life: Guidance, Trials, Charity, and Divine Wisdom.
1. Guidance and Disunity (Verse 213)
From the time of Prophet Adam (A.S.) until the era of Prophet Nuh (A.S.), all of humanity followed a single faith and code of law. Eventually, differences arose among people, leading Allah to send Prophet Nuh (A.S.) as the first Messenger (Rasool). To guide humanity, a succession of Prophets began, and they were granted Divine Books and scriptures, such as the Torah, Psalms (Zabur), Gospel (Injeel), and finally, the Quran.
The Lesson:
Even after receiving knowledge, people fell into disagreement due to mutual jealousy. However, Allah guided the believers through Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to the truth concerning which previous nations were conflicted. Remember, Allah shows the Straight Path to those who abandon arrogance and turn toward Him.
2. The Path to Paradise and Trials (Verse 214)
This verse was revealed during the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwa-e-Ahzab) when Muslims faced extreme hardship from hunger and cold. Allah asks: "Do you think you will enter Paradise without being tested?" Previous nations faced such severe trials that they were buried in the earth and sawn in half, or their flesh was torn with iron combs, yet they never turned away from their faith.
The Lesson:
When the trial reached its peak, and even the Messenger and the believers cried out, "When will the help of Allah come?", they were reassured that Allah's help is near. This verse serves as glad tidings for new Muslims and those adopting a path of righteousness—success is found only through patience and steadfastness.
3. The Correct Way to Spend (Verse 215)
Hazrat Amr bin Jamuh (R.A.), an elderly and wealthy companion, asked, "What should we spend, and on whom should we spend it?" Allah replied that whatever wealth you spend in goodness, the primary right belongs to your parents. After them come relatives, orphans, the needy, and travelers.
The Lesson:
Righteousness is not just about ritual worship; it includes taking care of your loved ones. Two points are vital here: first, this verse refers to voluntary charity (Sadaqah-e-Nafla), and second, it is not permissible to give Zakat or obligatory charity to one’s parents (as their right and status are far higher).
4. Divine Wisdom and Human Preference (Verse 216)
Jihad (striving in the way of Allah) was made obligatory for Muslims, though it is naturally difficult and heavy upon the soul. However, Allah declares that you may dislike something that is actually good for you, and you may love something that is actually harmful for you. Just as bitter medicine or surgery is disliked but provides a cure, or a diabetic patient loves sweets even though they are dangerous.
The Lesson:
Our knowledge is limited, but Allah’s knowledge is perfect. Do not base your judgment of "good" or "bad" on your own feelings, but rather on Allah’s commands. True peace is found in being content with Allah's will when things do not go according to our personal desires.
Ahem Nikaat (Key Takeaways)
1. Ikhtelaf ka Hal
Allah ne Ambiya aur Asmani Kitabein isliye bhejin taake haq aur batil ke darmiyan wazeh faisla ho sake. Asli kamyabi zidd chhor kar haq ko manne mein hai. Is ayat mein Allah ne wazeh farmaya hai ke Ambiya aur Rasoolon ko logon ki hidayat ke liye bheja gaya—pichli qaumon ke liye bhi aur hamare liye bhi. Pichli qaumon (Yahud-o-Nasara) ke paas bhi Allah ne Quran aur apna Mehboob ﷺ bheja aur wazeh hidayat di, lekin wo log apni zidd aur hasad ki wajah se hidayat na paa sake.
Agar dekha jaye toh aajkal hamara haal bhi kuch aisa hi hai. Hamare paas aaj har cheez hai—Quran hai, Hadees hai, aur bare bare scholars hain—lekin hum hidayat hasil hi nahi karna chahte. Humein pata hota hai ke hum galat hain, lekin hum khud ko mukhtalif bahane bana kar satisfy kar rahe hote hain. Ek boht ahem topic "Namaz" hai; sab ko pata hai ke ye farz hai. Pichle kuch time se ye baat nikli hai (pata nahi kahan se) ke jo namaz nahi parhte, wo ye kehne lagte hain: "Pata nahi mujh se aisa kaunsa gunah ho gaya jo Allah mujhe apne aage khara nahi kar raha ya sajde ki tofeeq nahi de raha." Shayad aap logon ne bhi ye suna ho, lekin ye kehna boht galat hai. Ek toh aap namaz nahi parh rahe, upar se ilzam (Na’uzubillah) Allah ko de rahe hain!
Dekhein, har insan gunahgar hota hai; maa ke pet se toh hum nek paida nahi hote. Hum insan is qabil nahi ke poori tarah nek ho jayein, kahin na kahin galti hoti hi hai. Namaz toh gunahon ka kaffara hai; jab insan mohabbat ke sath sajde mein sar rakhta hai, toh Allah wese hi saare gunah maaf kar deta hai. Jo namaz nahi parhte, wo Allah se dua karein ke Allah humein namaz ki tofeeq de, lekin aisi baatein na karein. Bas hidayat par aane ki koshish karein. Jab aap ek qadam barhate hain, toh Allah sau qadam barhta hai. Is liye aise galat messages ko share na kiya karein. Beshak Allah sab se zyada meherban hai.
2. Jannat ka Rasta
Jannat ka rasta azmaishon se guzarta hai. Mushkilat imaan ka imtehan hain, aur jab mushkil had se barh jaye toh samajh lein ke Allah ki madad qareeb hai. Is ayat mein Allah ne wazeh kiya hai ke Jannat pana asan nahi hai, insan ko mushkilon se guzarna hoga aur sabr karna hoga. Sabr boht bari cheez hai; Hadees-e-Mubaraka hai: "Sabr Roshni hai." Sabr hi Jannat ka rasta hai. Zindagi hai toh mushkilat toh aayengi.
Is liye mushkilat se mat ghabrayein. Koi apna jata hai toh takleef boht hoti hai, gham boht bara hota hai, lekin yahi sabr ka waqt hota hai. Dil mein Allah ka shukr ada karein aur aansuon se royein, ye toh waqti judai hai, Jannat mein toh sab ne ikhta hona hi hai.
Hamare Pyare Nabi ﷺ ne toh apne walid ko dekha hi nahi tha, unki wiladat se pehle hi wo inteqal kar gaye. Phir maa aur dada ka saya uth gaya. Shadi hui toh apni pyari zoja Hazrat Khadija-tul-Kubra (R.A) ko khoya, apni zindagi mein apni aulad ko khoya. Itna gham duniya mein kisi ka nahi hai, lekin Aap ﷺ ne kabhi na-shukri nahi ki balki hamesha sabr kiya. Phir dekhein Allah ne Huzoor ﷺ ko kaisa martaba ata farmaya—wo Rasoolon mein sab se afzal hain aur Jannat unhi ki hai. Ye hota hai sabr ka inam!
3. Kharch ka Sequence
Maal kharch karte waqt sab se pehla haq Maa-Baap ka hai, phir rishtedar, yateem, miskeen aur musafir aate hain. Roze-e-Jaza ke din Allah apne bandon se 5 sawal karega, jis mein 2 sawal ye honge: "Maal kamaya kahan se?" aur "Kharch kahan kiya?" Is liye pehle toh maal halal kamayein. Baaz log kamate toh halal hain lekin kharch galat jagah karte hain, aur baaz kharch hi nahi karte. Ye dono cheezein Allah ko pasand nahi hain. Kanjos ko Allah pasand nahi farmata, is liye kharch karein lekin fazool kharchi bhi na karein, kyunke Allah fazool kharchi ko pasand nahi farmata.
Nabi Kareem ﷺ ne farmaya: "Tum mein se behtareen Musalman wo hai jo apne ghar walon ke sath behtareen hai, kyunke main apne ghar walon ke liye sab se zyada behtareen hoon." Maine society mein dekha hai ke kuch log maa-baap par kharch kar dete hain, doston par ya sadqa-khairat bhi karte hain, lekin apni biwion par waisa kharch nahi karte jaisa karna chahiye. Ya apni behnon par (khaas taur par shadi-shuda behnon par) kharch nahi karte. Aisa nahi hona chahiye. Agar married hain toh balance banayein. Behnon ko unka haq dein, jaise Eid ho ya koi khushi ka mauka ho, ya agar wo mushkil mein hon toh unki help karein. Phir agar Allah ne zyada diya hai toh zaroorat-mand padosiyon (neighbors) aur rishtedaroon par kharch karein. Maa-baap, behen-bhai, biwi-bacche aur zaroorat-mand—sab ka haq hai. Insan ko soch samajh kar balance ke sath kharch karna chahiye, ye nahi ke ek par toh behad kharch karein aur doosron ko bhool hi jayein.
4. Allah ki Hikmat
Hamari pasand aur na-pasand hamesha hamare faide mein nahi hoti. Asal bhalayi usi cheez mein hai jo Allah ne hamare liye chun li hai. Ye ayat bilkul wazeh hai. Hum insan Allah ki hikmat nahi samajh sakte, hum mein aqal kam hai aur humein har cheez ki jaldi aur besabri hoti hai. Lekin Allah behtareen hikmat wala hai. Maine apni life mein bhi experience kiya hai ke jab bhi koi mushkil aayi, toh Allah ne na sirf us se nikala balki us mushkil ke aane ka boht faida bhi hua—logon ki sachaiyan samne aayin. Allah koi kaam fazool nahi karwata. Agar Allah hum se kuch karwa raha hai, toh uske peeche boht bari hikmat zaroor hoti hai. Agar Allah Jihad ka hukm deta hai, toh Allah ki raah mein larne se kaisa darr? Zinda rahe toh Allah ka qurb pa liya, aur shaheed ho gaye toh shahadat ka martaba hi boht buland hai. Shaheed hamesha zinda rehta hai, wo kabhi nahi marta, bas hum insan usey dekh nahi sakte.
5. Limited Knowledge
Hamara ilm mehdood (limited) hai, jabke Allah ka ilm kamil (perfect) hai. Allah ki marzi par razi rehna hi zindagi ka asal sukoon hai.
Key Takeaways (Major Insights)
1. The Solution to Disunity
Allah sent Prophets and Divine Books to clearly distinguish between truth and falsehood. True success lies in setting aside arrogance and accepting the truth. In this verse, Allah clarifies that Messengers and Scriptures were sent for the guidance of all people—those before us and us as well. Previous nations (Jews and Christians) were also given the Quran and the guidance of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ, but many missed out on guidance due to their stubbornness and jealousy.
If we look at ourselves today, our situation is quite similar. We have everything—the Quran, the Hadith, and great scholars—yet we often lack the will to seek true guidance. We know when we are wrong, but we satisfy ourselves with various excuses. Take "Namaz" (Prayer) for example; everyone knows it is mandatory. Recently, a strange trend has emerged where people who don't pray say: "I don’t know what sin I’ve committed that Allah isn’t allowing me to stand before Him or giving me the 'Tofeeq' (ability) to prostrate." You might have heard this too, but saying this is deeply wrong. On one hand, you aren't praying, and on the other, you are (God forbid) blaming Allah!
Understand that every human is a sinner; we aren't born perfect. We aren't capable of being entirely sinless—mistakes happen. If sin prevented one from praying, then no human on earth could ever pray. Think about it: Allah has given us intellect, guidance, and the ability. If Allah didn't want us to bow before Him, He wouldn't have created us as Muslims. He gave us a beautiful mind, His Beloved Prophet ﷺ, and showed us the way through the Quran. Allah has already provided the guidance and the ability; we just have to reach out and take it. Prayer is the expiation for sins; when a person places their head in prostration with love, Allah forgives their sins. Those who don't pray should ask Allah for the strength to start, rather than making such excuses. Just make the effort to come towards guidance. When you take one step toward Allah, He takes a hundred steps toward you. Do not share such misleading messages. Indeed, Allah is the Most Merciful.
2. The Path to Paradise
The path to Paradise passes through trials. Hardships are a test of faith, and when the difficulty becomes unbearable, know that Allah's help is near. This verse makes it clear that gaining Paradise is not easy; one must face hardships and practice patience (Sabr). Patience is a powerful thing; the Hadith says: "Patience is light." It is the road to Paradise. As long as there is life, there will be trials. Even the Messengers and Prophets of Allah faced hardships. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said that every Prophet was tested, but: "I was tested the most." Yet, Allah gave him the greatest reward for his patience.
When Allah tested His Beloved ﷺ—the greatest being in the universe—who are we as ordinary sinners to complain? Therefore, do not fear hardships. When a trial comes, be patient and trust Allah. Allah has promised: "My help is near." He never burdens a soul beyond its capacity. We often get discouraged by small life problems. Sometimes when someone passes away, people utter words (God forbid) that could take them out of the fold of Islam. Don't do this. Losing a loved one is incredibly painful, but that is the real moment for patience. Thank Allah in your heart and let your tears flow—this is only a temporary separation; everyone will be reunited in Paradise.
Our Dear Prophet ﷺ never even saw his father, who passed away before his birth. Then he lost the shadow of his mother and grandfather. Later in life, he lost his beloved wife Hazrat Khadija (R.A.) and even his own children. No one in the world has faced such grief, yet he never showed ingratitude; he always remained patient. Look at the status Allah then granted him—he is the greatest of all Messengers, and Paradise belongs to him. This is the reward of patience!
3. The Sequence of Spending
When spending wealth, the primary right belongs to Parents, followed by relatives, orphans, the needy, and travelers. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will ask five questions, two of which are: "Where did you earn your wealth from?" and "Where did you spend it?" Therefore, first ensure your income is Halal. Some people earn Halal but spend it on the wrong things, while others don't spend at all. Allah dislikes both behaviors. Allah does not love a miser, so spend—but do not be extravagant, for Allah does not love wastefulness either.
The best spending is that which is done for one's family. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best among you is the one who is best to his family, and I am the best among you to my family." I have seen in society that some spend on parents and friends or give charity elsewhere, but they don't spend on their wives as they should. Or they neglect their sisters (especially married sisters). This shouldn't happen. Depending on your income, prioritize your parents first. If you are married, create a balance. Give your sisters their rights—during Eid, happy occasions, or when they are in need. If Allah has blessed you with more, spend on needy neighbors and relatives. Parents, siblings, spouse, children, and the needy—everyone has a right. One must spend with balance and thought, rather than spending excessively on one and forgetting the others.
4. Divine Wisdom
Our likes and dislikes are not always in our best interest. True goodness lies in what Allah has chosen for us. This verse is crystal clear. We humans cannot comprehend Allah's wisdom; we lack foresight and are often hasty and impatient. But Allah is the Most Wise. I have experienced in my own life that whenever a difficulty came, Allah not only brought me out of it but that trial also brought many benefits—like revealing the truth about people. Allah never does anything without purpose. If Allah commands something, there is a great wisdom behind it. If Jihad becomes an obligation, why fear fighting in the way of Allah? If one lives, they gain closeness to Allah; if one is martyred, the status of martyrdom is immensely high. A martyr lives forever; we just cannot see it.
5. Limited Knowledge
Our knowledge is limited, while Allah’s knowledge is perfect. Finding contentment in Allah’s will is the true peace of life.
Yaad rakhein, Jannat ka rasta azmaishon se bhara hai. Allah ne apne Nabiyon tak ko azmaya, toh hum kya cheez hain? Sabar sirf khamoshi ka naam nahi, balki us yaqeen ka naam hai ke jab raste band nazar aayein, tab bhi aap muskura kar kahein ke "Mera Allah mere sath hai." Beshak sabr boht afzal hai, lekin yahan ye baat samajhna bhi zaroori hai ke asal sabr hai kya?
Hamari society mein sabr ka ek alag hi matlab nikal liya gaya hai.
Hum insan mehdood ilm rakhte hain. Hum un cheezon ke peeche bhagte hain jo shayad hamare liye buri hon, aur unse darrte hain jo hamare liye behtar hoti hain. Allah hamara Khaliq hai, wo janta hai ke hamare liye kya sahi hai aur kab sahi hai. Neki sirf ibadat mein nahi, balki apne Maa-Baap aur apno ka khayal rakhne aur unke haqooq ada karne mein bhi hai.
Bas ye yaad rakhein ke hamara ilm mehdood hai magar Allah ka ilm kamil hai. Zindagi mein jab bhi kabhi pareshani aaye, toh bas ye keh kar sukoon paa lein: "Allah janta hai aur main nahi jante." Jis din hum ne apni marzi ko Allah ki marzi mein shamil kar diya, us din se hamari zindagi ke dukh, dukh nahi rahenge balki sukoon ban jayenge.
Beshak, Allah sabar karne walon ke sath hai.
A Message from the Heart: The True Path to Peace
In the constant race of life, we are all searching for peace, but we often look for it in the wrong places. These verses of Surah Al-Baqarah remind us that true peace isn't found in the external world; it lies in being content with the Will of Allah.
Remember, the path to Paradise is paved with trials. Allah tested even His Prophets, so who are we to expect otherwise? Patience (Sabr) is not just about remaining silent; it is the name of that unwavering certainty that even when all paths seem closed, you can still smile and say, "My Allah is with me." While Sabr is highly virtuous, it is vital to understand what true Sabr actually is.
In our society, a very different meaning has been attached to patience. Most often, it is the woman who is forced to "be patient" at every turn. If parents arrange a marriage against a daughter’s will, she is told to "have Sabr." After becoming a wife, if the husband is abusive, uses foul language, or is unfaithful, she is still told to "have Sabr." Let’s be clear: this is not Sabr; this is Injustice (Zulm)! The Prophet ﷺ said: "Injustice will be a cause of darkness on the Day of Resurrection." Injustice is a grave sin, yet here, it is often disguised under the cloak of patience. Islam teaches us to call what is right "right" and what is wrong "wrong." Being patient during a trial sent by Allah is an act of worship, but silently enduring someone’s cruelty is not what Sabr means.
As humans, our knowledge is limited. We chase after things that might be harmful to us, and we fear things that might actually be the best for us. Allah is our Creator; He knows what is right for us and when it is right. Righteousness is not found only in rituals; it is found in caring for our parents, our loved ones, and fulfilling their due rights.
Just remember: our knowledge is limited, but Allah’s knowledge is perfect. Whenever a hardship touches your life, find peace by saying: "Allah knows, and I do not know." The day we align our will with the Will of Allah, our sorrows will no longer feel like burdens—they will transform into a source of tranquility.
Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient
